What do i need to look for if a person claiming to be a private investigator hired me to train for a job?

my fiance and i were doing laundry and someone asked if we wanted an extra job. he said we could get trained and my fiance's military experience would help. i wanna know how i'd know if this was a legit job or if it is a fraud/illegal.
